Kungliga Slottet - The Royal Palace
1697-1704 Nicodemus Tessin the younger. 1754 completion under C Hårleman and others.
When the old Tre Kronor Palace burned down in 1697, Tessin the younger immediatly started the new construction. Horizontal lines are characteristic of the new palace, which was completed in 1754. The Palace building was of particular signifiance to artistic development in Stockholm. Craftspeople brought in from France were forced to take on apprentices in Stockholm. There was soon a large number of skilled craftspeople in the city. Sweden´s present Royal Famlily now lives in Drottningholm Palace. The Royal Palace is instead used for dinners and receptions.
